DC Council to consider banning suspensions of preschoolers
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A D.C. Council committee will hold a hearing on a bill that would ban out-of-school suspensions for preschoolers.
Councilmember David Grosso (GRAH'-so) introduced the bill last month, and all 10 of his colleagues have signed on as co-sponsors.
A report released last year by the District superintendent's office found that 181 pre-kindergarten students were suspended from District public schools during the 2012-2013 school year.
Grosso, an independent, has said he doesn't see any reason why a 3- or 4-year-old should be suspended or expelled from school. The hearing will be held Wednesday by the council's education committee, which Grosso chairs.
