Crash leaves SUV dangling off I-4 overpass
MAITLAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Authorities worked for hours to remove a vehicle that was left dangling off an interstate overpass following a mid-afternoon crash on Tuesday. The back end of an sport utility vehicle was pushed over a guardrail along eastbound lanes of Maitland Blvd., after the SUV was struck by a large truck.
Authorities said that, in addition to the SUV and the large truck, two other vehicles were involved in this incident. The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash helped in rescuing the occupants from the dangling SUV. "Once the crash stopped, they exited their vehicles to assist those people out of their vehicle," said Sgt. Louis Grindle with the Maitland Police Department. All of the occupants of the SUV, including one child, sustained non life-threatening injuries.
Orange County Fire Rescue and Maitland police officers secured the SUV as eastbound traffic along Maitland Blvd. was closed for several hours. Some debris from the crash did land on the interstate below, but troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol did not immediately close traffic on the roadway. Once the SUV was prepared for removal, FHP closed two eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 as a precaution. All lanes of Interstate 4 and Maitland Blvd. were reopened by 5:30 p.m.
