Chick-fil-A celebrates new Capitol Hill location with 'Road Trip' for free meals

A brand new Chick-fil-A is coming to Capitol Hill and that means a year's worth of free meals for 100 lucky customers-- but there won't be any camping out this time around.

Instead, the Capitol Hill East location will celebrate its June 1 grand opening with the DC area's first Chick-fil-A Road Trip. On Wednesday, May 31, 100 lucky participants will board charter buses for an interactive field trip around the District. But first, they'll gather at the restaurant to help assemble 10,000 meals to support Feeding Children Everywhere.

On the trip, they will spend the day taking part in activities that will get them up and moving, and help them to move others in the community with acts of service. This will include assembling 10,000 meals for D.C. Central Kitchen.

After the field trip, they'll return to the new restaurant for dinner--and they'll receive their reward of a free year's supply of Chick-fil-A meals.

Chick-fil-A's First 100 campouts are known for their free giveaways to participants. When new locations open around the country, customers line up for the chance to be one of the lucky 100 people to win one free meal a week for a year. Usually, this means long lines and campouts for the chance to be at the front of the line.

If you want to take part in the Road Trip, you must register at the Capitol Hill East location (1401 Maryland Ave. NE) on the morning of the event (May 31) between 6-9:45 am or until 100 eligible participants are reached. If more than 100 people line up at 6 a.m., a drawing will be held to randomly select 100 participants.

Participants can start gathering at the restaurant at 5:45 am on May 31. The Road Trip is open to residents who are 18 or older, residing in specific zip codes surrounding the restaurant. A list of eligible zip codes and event rules can be found at www.chick-fil-a.com/Locations/Openings.

Local franchise owner Peter Choi also plans to give the community the chance to donate children's books at the new restaurant, to benefit Miner Elementary School. You can participate by donating new and gently-used children's books, which will be placed in a nearly 3-foot Book House, made from reclaimed wood, to serve as a free library exchange.
