Charles County school assistant pleads not guilty to child porn charges

Carlos Bell is accused of sexually abusing 42 minors in Charles County, but on Tuesday his attorney told a federal judge he was not guilty of 10 counts of child pornography.

Bell was a school assistant and track coach and is accused of sexually assaulting minors without protection, knowing he was HIV positive.

The charges came after officials were able to search through Bell's belongings and electronic devices. If Bell is found guilty, each charge carries 10 years behind bars.

Bell is also facing many other felony charges in Charles County for his alleged sexual crimes against minors. In fact, a 206-count indictment was handed down last month.

After the hearing today, Bell was transported back to Charles County where he will stay in jail.

Another former Charles County teacher, a woman who taught at St. Charles High School, has also been indicted on sexual abuse of a minor, according to officials.
