Bethesda Safeway employee had sex with underage girl in store's storage room, police say

A Montgomery County man has been arrested after authorities said he admitted to having sex with an underage girl in a storage room at a Safeway in Bethesda.

Montgomery County police said Kevin Taffo-Sanchez was 21 years old when he met the 14-year-old girl at the Safeway on Bradley Boulevard in Bethesda in November 2017.

Investigators said Taffo-Sanchez worked at the Starbucks kiosk inside the grocery store. The underage girl told authorities she met Taffo-Sanchez at the store before school in November 2017 and the two had sex in a storage room in the basement of the store.

The victim, who is now 16 years old, told police she and Taffo-Sanchez dated from November 2017 to July 2018. Police said they began investigating the relationship in February 2019 after they were contacted.

Taffo-Sanchez, who is now 23 years old, told detectives he had consensual sex with the girl at the store on two separate occasions, according to police.

Officials said he was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree sex offense.
