Benedict Cumberbatch saves a man from attackers
LOS ANGELES - Don't call Benedict Cumberbatch a hero even if what he did is pretty heroic.
While riding in an Uber, Cumberbatch saw a Deliveroo cyclist being mugged by four men in England. (Deliveroo is the Postmates of the UK.) He was riding along with his wife Sophie Hunter and told his uber to pull over. Cumberbatch got out and broke up the fight and saved the Deliveroo driver from being hit over the head with a bottle.
The uber driver was beaming with pride for his brave passenger.
"Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn't stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street. He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, 'Leave him alone'. I had hold of one lad and Benedict another. He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave. He did most of it, to be honest. They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn't injured. Then I think they also saw it was Benedict and ran away."
However, the ever bashful Cumberbatch is not letting the incident get to his head.
"I'm no hero. There are real-life heroes out there and I'm not one of them."
We'll agree to disagree.
