Beltway crash leaves one dead, one critically injured in Prince George's Co.

One person has died and another is in critical condition after a serious crash on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway in Prince George's County, police say.

Maryland State Police say one person died at the scene, and Prince George's County Fire says the other patient was transported to a trauma center in critical condition.

Officials say it may possibly have been a wrong-way crash.

Maryland State Highway Officials say the crash happened on I-495 just past Exit 15, MD 214 around 9 p.m.

A photo tweeted by Kentland Volunteer Fire shows a Xfinity truck severely crushed by the impact. However, the victim who was killed in the crash was in the other vehicle.

Maryland State Police officers are investigating the cause of the crash.
