Barber gives free haircuts to homeless men looking to change their lives

Roger Lopez is a barber who puts his talents to work helping others.

Once a month Lopez heads beneath a freeway underpass where those who are homeless attend church and offers the men free haircuts.

Lopez says he understands their struggle better than most, since he was once addicted to drugs and homeless himself. Lopez says his friends and family helped him realize what he was passionate about and set him on the right path. Within 14 months, he was a licensed barber.

Now, he's using his skills and his experience to help others.

"Today I woke up and I said you know I can get my haircut today," one man getting a haircut told Fox 7 Austin. "I start doing interviews next month so I feel real good about it. I'm glad they're here."
