Authorities investigate deadly officer-involved shooting near Deanwood Metro Station
WASHINGTON - A Metro Transit Police Officer shot and killed an armed man overnight in northeast D.C., officials say.
Police responded to the 4900 block of Quarles Street around 11 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, the armed subject opened fire on their unmarked patrol car.
The officer inside of the vehicle was not injured by the gunfire. He returned fire, striking and injuring the man.
The armed subject, who has yet to be identified, was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. The suspect's weapon was recovered on the scene.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation at this time. The location of the shooting is close to the Deanwood Metro Station. Several violent incidents occurred at that station earlier this year including a fatal shooting in March and a fatal stabbing in April.
