Amtrak, VRE operating at full service Monday; MARC Brunswick Line operates on modified schedule
WASHINGTON - Amtrak and VRE say they'll be operating at full service Monday for the rush-hour commute following the weekend CSX freight train derailment in Virginia.
Officials say 31 derailed cars Saturday morning in Alexandria just after 7 a.m., after a bridge partially collapsed. Police closed Wheeler Road between Early and Gordon streets as a result of the derailment.
There were no passengers aboard the 167-car train, which was not carrying any hazardous materials at the time of the derailment.
Meanwhile, the MARC Brunswick Line will operate on a modified schedule Monday - the same schedule used last Friday after the transit line experienced track problems west of Point of Rocks.
There will be no Brunswick Line service to the Martinsburg, Duffields, Harpers Ferry, or Brunswick stations.
