Amber Alert canceled: 3-year-old Maryland girl found safe in Delaware
WORCESTER, Md. - Authorities in Maryland say a missing 3-year-old girl and the 30-year-old woman who was believed to have abducted the young girl have been found safe in Delaware after an Amber Alert was issued Monday night.
Law enforcement located 3-year-old Jalay Miyah Diggs and 30-year-old Kayleigh Burton in Bridgeville, Delaware, according to the Worcester County Sheriff's Department.
Officials say the 3-year-old girl was under the legal custody of her grandparents when Burton, a relative of the grandparents who has watched the child in the past, came to the grandparents' home on Monday and took the young girl without permission. They say Burton was believed to have been heading to Anne Arundel County in Maryland with the girl before the car she was driving was spotted and stopped by police in Delaware.
In addition to Burton, another woman was also detained by Delaware State Police. It is unknown what her relationship is to the suspect or child and what her involvement was in the abduction.
Police say Diggs will receive a medical checkup to check on her health, but she is believed to be okay.
The Worcester County Sheriff's Office is headed to Delaware to talk to the suspects and the case remains under investigation.
