A police officer who has spent the last two years recovering after being shot in the head during a traffic stop is retiring.
Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy was honored by colleagues when he was given his retirement credentials Wednesday.
Laboy was shot in the head and seriously injured during a routine traffic stop in Alexandria on February 27, 2013. He spent nearly two months in the hospital before continuing his recovery at home.
The shooting left him with serious brain injuries and required him to relearn many skills and required intense physical therapy.
