21-year-old man in serious condition after gunfire erupts at vigil for shooting victim
GERMANTOWN, Md. - A man is in serious condition after a shooting at a vigil in Montgomery County.
It happened near Sage Way and Cinnamon Drive in Germantown at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police had multiple scenes roped off and investigators told FOX 5 they are still looking into where exactly the shooting happened and if a fight or assault happened in a different location prior to the shooting.
The shooting happened at the tail end of a vigil held for 18-year-old Genesis McCarter-Beretto, who was shot and killed early Sunday morning when a teenager opened fire at a prom after-party in Frederick. Another male victim was injured during the shooting.
Police arrested 17-year-old Ean Lanell Davis-Lattimore for the Frederick shooting.
About 50 people came out to remember McCarter-Beretto. Those who knew her described her as a sweet and loving woman who was trying to stop a fight at the time of the shooting.
Investigators are looking into if the shooting is connected to the vigil.
