A 2-year-old boy died Friday night after being pulled from a pond in Gaithersburg. The child was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive.

Police identified the child as 2-year-old Malik Bojang.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services spokesman Pete Piringer says it happened near Montgomery Village Avenue and Lake Shore Drive in Gaithersburg. The child had apparently wandered off, and was initially reported missing when police were called by the family.

The boy was later found in the water, and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but he was said to be unresponsive. His condition was grave, but just after 10 pm, Montgomery County police confirmed to FOX 5 that the boy had died.

Police say child was at the Tot Lot near the lake when he wandered off and they don't suspect anything suspicious.
