2 officers recovering, suspect dead after shooting at Chandler Walmart

Chandler Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened at a Chandler Walmart at Arizona Avenue and the Loop 202.

Two officers who were injured in an ambush-style shooting and they are reportedly in stable condition.

Detective Seth Tyler says two officers were shot at the Chandler Walmart at 6:20 a.m., on Saturday morning for a report of a trespasser. Police say the suspect, described as a white man in his 20's, had a history of trespassing at the store.

Police say as soon as the first police officer entered the store, the suspect opened fire right inside the foyer in what could be described as an ambush-style shooting. The officer was reportedly shot in the face and rushed to the hospital for surgery.

Police say that officer is expected to survive and both officers were wearing their ballistic vests.

Another officer returned fire and was injured by the shooter's gunfire, police say. That officer also sustained injuries in the shooting.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

A press conference is expected to happen later at noon at the Chandler police headquarters with Chandler Police Chief Sean Duggan and Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny.

Both officers are now in stable condition at the hospital.
