2 charged in fatal motel parking lot assault near Washington
SILVER SPRING, Md. - (AP) -- Two people have been charged in the death of a 24-year-old man who was attacked outside Washington, D.C.
Local news outlets report 20-year-old Ruben Ortiz and 19-year-old Shanee Collette Cox face murder and armed robbery charges after being arrested Sunday night in the death of Sulaiman Jalloh.
Montgomery County police say Jalloh and friends were approached in an effort to sell them marijuana Saturday night at the Silver Spring Metro station. They agreed to meet outside a motel nearby, where Jalloh and friends took cash and shoes.
Police say Ortiz later returned to Jalloh's room to demand the items back. Jalloh died after being beaten, stabbed and robbed by a group in the motel's parking lot later.
Ortiz and Cox are held without bail. It's unclear if they have attorneys.
