A woman was killed, and a 12-year-old girl was injured in a shooting in Northwest D.C. Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The suspect in the shooting has killed himself, police say.

D.C. Interim Police Chief Jeffery Carroll says this was a domestic incident that turned tragic.

What we know:

Police say the call came in at 4:36 p.m. for a shooting in the 4100 block of W Street, NW.

Officials say when they arrived at the scene, they found an adult female who was not conscious. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child, a 12-year-old girl, was taken to the hospital after she was shot in the arm. Police have not released additional information on her current condition.

The shooting reportedly happened inside the doorway area of an apartment building and led outside, where the victims were found.

Police say the suspect in the shooting is 35-year-old Stephon Jeter.

Jeter reportedly fled the scene in a white pick-up truck, which was spotted by Prince George's County police after MPD issued a lookout.

Prince George's County police initiated a pursuit, which ended in a crash in the area of 30th Street and Nash Place in Southeast D.C.

According to police, Jeter has died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The search for Millian Jeter:

After police discovered Jeter, they advised the public that his three-year-old child, Millian Jeter, was missing.

An AMBER alert was issued around 7 p.m.

Police provided an update around 8:30 p.m. stating that Millian had been found safe with a relative in Prince George's County.

Chief Carroll says this was a domestic incident that turned into a tragedy.

He issued a reminder to the community that there are resources available for those that need them.

"Domestic violence can happen anywhere and as we know, many times in domestic violence cases, these things continue on. There's a cycle that goes along with them. You know, things that happen indoors and appearances on the outside are completely different. It can happen, really, to anyone. There may be people out here today that are experiencing domestic violence issues. We have a ton of resources out there like DC SAFE. So anyone who may be experiencing these types of issues, we ask you to reach out to us, connect with other resources. You know, there are a variety of other resources out there," Carroll said.

"Domestic violence is one of the crimes that we're starting to see an increase in. Some of that probably has to do with the recent weather and the ice that's put people in their homes. But here in the wintertime, we have seen an increase in that, so anything we can do to push that message out about domestic violence awareness and the things that we can do to help people if they are in that situation," he added.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to call 202-727-9099 or text 50411.
