Woman arrested, charged after leaving vehicle and carjacking driver in Montgomery County, police say

Police have arrested and charged a woman they say left her vehicle in the roadway and carjacked a man in the middle of the night in Montgomery County.

Officers say just after midnight Wednesday a man was driving near Amberlea Farm Drive and Dufief Mill Road in North Potomac when a woman in the vehicle in front of him stopped her car, walked to his vehicle and asked him for a ride.

The woman, identified as 19-year-old Awa Rahman, got in the passenger's seat and demanded to be driven to D.C. before putting an object that the victim thought was gun to his head and telling him to get out of the car, police say. Once he got out, Rahman drove off and was spotted by police who pursued her. Officers say Rahman crashed into the trees on Clara Barton Parkway and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rahman has been charged with armed carjacking and making a false statement to an officer.
