Virginia mom, boyfriend arrested after police find 3-year-old's body in the river

A Virginia mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after the body of a missing 3-year-old girl was found in the New River in Wythe County.

Sheriff's Investigators responded to 290 Rocky Hollow Road around 7:28 p.m. on Tuesday evening after Josie Burleson was reported missing.

The girl's mother, Kimberly Dawn Moore, and her boyfriend, Adrian Neil Puckett, said that she was playing near the New River Trail and then wandered off from the home they were visiting.

According to the sheriff's office, crews began searching the area within minutes, and for over five hours, more than 100 searchers scoured the area.

A little after 1 a.m., they say the child's body turned up in the river.

Moore and Puckett were arrested and charged with felony child neglect and reckless disregard for life, along with felony child endangerment.
