Va. gov. declares state of emergency in response to severe weather
(AP) -- Gov. Terry McAuliffe has declared a state of emergency in response to a powerful storm that left three people dead.
McAuliffe issued the declaration Wednesday to enable state agencies to devote available resources to storm response and recovery.
The storm spawned at least one confirmed tornado in Waverly, where two men and a 2-year-old child were killed.
McAuliffe said state emergency officials are closely monitoring storms that continue to lash parts of the state.
