Toyota is recalling more than 1 million cars due to a software problem that might cause the rearview camera to freeze or show a blank screen when the car is in reverse, increasing an accident risk.

A recall notice released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 1,024,407 vehicles were impacted.
What Toyota models are being recalled?
Dig deeper: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall covers certain 2022 through 2026 Toyota and Lexus model cars — including Camry, Highlander, RAV4, Prius and Lexus RX, TX, LS, GX, NX and LX — as well as Subaru Solterra vehicles equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor system.

Owners of one of the affected cars can take it to their local dealership where technicians will update the parking assistance software for free.

Letters informing car owners about the safety risk are going to be mailed on December 16, and additional letters will be distributed once a final solution is available, according to the NHTSA.
And owners with questions about the recall can call Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. The NHTSA noted that Toyota's numbers for this recall are 25TB13 and 25LB06. Subaru's number for this recall is WRE25.
