The best way to deal with freckles? Wear them proudly
LOS ANGELES - Do you have freckles? You've heard all the nicknames- but do you know what causes them to appear? No, not angel kisses. Thank Mom and Dad and a little dusting of sunshine for your remarkable beauty marks.
Freckles are the result of inheriting a mutated MC1R gene- (the same gene redheads have) and exposure to UV light. The sunlight triggers the skin's melanocytes to make more melanin, which results in your uniquely speckled skin.
Freckles are most common (and most visible) on people with fairer skin, so they should take care to protect themselves with sunscreen, but of course, people of all skin tones can have them. They don't really serve a purpose- other than making people interested in their alluring patterns.
One great benefit is that they keep you looking youthful! Freckles start appearing around age five through puberty- so they're associated with being young and vibrant.
People with freckles stand out- so they're free to be fiercely confident. And freckled ladies don't need to bother with make-up. It's difficult to cover them up- but why would you want to? We think these sparkly little spots are absolutely stunning. In fact, some people covet freckles, even drawing them on to look cute.
So if you've got them, we say let them shine! They're as beautiful and unique as you are.
