Southeast DC shooting leaves man dead; suspect identified

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday morning in Southeast Washington.

The suspect has been identified as Shawnta Aiken, 51, of Southeast, D.C. She's been charged with second-degree murder while armed, and the case is considered domestic, the MPD says. 

The backstory:

Officers responded to the 3000 block of P Street, Southeast at 8:52 a.m. on November 2. Upon arrival, they found an adult male who was unconscious and not breathing due to a gunshot wound. Despite efforts by D.C. Fire and EMS, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has since been identified by the MPD as Richard Walker, 56, of Southeast, D.C.

What we don't know:

Details about the motive behind the shooting have not been released as of this time.
