Shotgun blast damages ATM but suspect unable to get money

Police in Virginia are searching for a person they say shot at an automatic teller machine with a shotgun in an unsuccessful robbery attempt.

Officers say the were called to the BB&T Bank on Richmond Highway in Alexandria around 11 a.m. Sunday after a customer walked up to the ATM and found pieces missing and scattered on the ground.

Surveillance footage shows a person shot the machine with a shotgun around 4:45 a.m. The suspect, dressed in tan pants and a red hooded sweatshirt, is believed to have left the area in a 4-door sedan.
