WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Prince William County Public Schools opened the 2026–27 school year Monday, with several updates in place as students return to class.
Start times have changed for 10 middle and high schools this year.

The division is also continuing its phased rollout of updated grading, assessment and reporting practices aimed at creating greater consistency across PWCS. The changes include revised grading scales for grades 6–12, clearer expectations for assessments and updated weighting, 40% formative and 60% summative at the elementary level, and 30% formative and 70% summative in middle and high school. Guidance for reassessments, homework, gradebook reporting and final grade calculations has also been refined, with continued alignment to supports such as IEPs, 504 Plans and English learner services.

All students in kindergarten through grade 12 will receive iPads this year.
The division is also transitioning to new digital tools. The previous EZ A2B, ParentVUE and StudentVUE apps are no longer supported, and families are being directed to download the updated apps.
