Prince George's Co. police investigating string of thefts from cars, including 16 on Christmas Day

Prince George's County police are investigating more than 40 thefts from vehicles reported over the Christmas weekend.

Police say 27 thefts were reported leading up to Christmas, with another 16 reported on Christmas Day. Investigators say the crimes were spread throughout the county.

Many were crimes of opportunity, according to investigators, as victims left doors unlocked or left valuables in plain sight.

Officers shared photos on Twitter of one car that had been broken into and another that had all four wheels missing.

Police say the thefts are a reminder to always lock doors and not to feel a false sense of security.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call police.
