Powerball jackpot up to $1.6B after no big winner Saturday

The Powerball jackpot for Monday’s Christmas week drawing has risen to $1.6 billion after no one hit the big prize Saturday night.

Monday’s jackpot is the fourth largest in Powerball history and the fifth largest in U.S. lottery jackpots.

Saturday’s Powerball numbers

The Powerball numbers for Saturday, Dec. 20 are white balls 4, 5, 28, 52, 69 and red Powerball 20. The Power Play multiplier was 3.

Eight tickets matched all five white balls. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan (2), New Hampshire and Ohio. There were 112 tickets that won $50,000 prizes and 22 tickets that won $150,000 prizes.

In the Double Play drawing, a ticket in New Jersey won a $500,000 prize after matching all five black balls.

By the numbers:

The $1.6 billion jackpot for Monday night’s drawing has an estimated cash value of $735.3 million before taxes. The winner can also choose an annuity and receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

Monday’s Powerball drawing will be a record 46th in the jackpot cycle. The Powerball jackpot was last won on Sept. 6 by two tickets in Missouri and Texas that split a $1.787 billion prize.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
