Police pursuit in Fauquier County involving 15-year-old

A 15-year-old male has been charged with several offenses, including driving without a license and possession of marijuana, after a pursuit involving Fauquier County Police.

The young man attempted to avoid a traffic safety stop on Route 28/Catlett Road on the evening of April 22 by backing into a guard rail, pulling forward and then striking another guard rail before driving away at a high rate of speed. An officer attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver refused to slow down or obey signals to stop.

Near the 4000 block of Catlett Road, the SUV drove over spike strips deployed by another officer before striking two marked Sheriff's Office cruisers. The vehicle eventually came to a stop in the 3000 block of Catlett Road, where the driver and two passengers were taken into custody.

The 15-year-old driver was charged with felony eluding, two counts of assault on law enforcement, no vehicle operator's license and possession of marijuana.

An 18-year-old male passenger is also charged with possession of marijuana. His identification is unavailable at this time. Charges are pending against another 17-year-old male passenger.

The driver is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Loudoun County. The two passengers were released.
