Police make arrest in death of Southeast DC teen, reportedly killed over pair of Air Jordans

D.C. Police say they made an arrest in the death a 17-year-old boy who his family says was killed over a pair of Air Jordans at a Southeast D.C. basketball court in December.

Investigators say they have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile male from Southeast, DC on charges of Felony Murder for the death of James Anthony Smith.

Smith was shot and killed Dec. 18 at the 1900 block of Frederick Douglass Court in Southeast DC.

Smith's mother believes the teenager was killed over a new pair of Jordans that were stolen from him, according to a family friend.

Police say just before 6 p.m., police responded for reports of a shooting, where they found Smith unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The teen was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
