Police arrest man suspected of spreading suspicious powder at Metro station

Metro service is back to normal operations and arrested a man suspected of spreading an unknown white powdery substance on a Southeast D.C. station bench.

Metro Transit police say they have located suspect, identified as 59-year-old Thomas S. Greene.

Greene is reportedly under arrest for multiple open warrants.

Police issued surveillance photos of the man suspected for his involvement.

Officials had suspended train service along a portion of the Orange, Silver, and Blue lines for their investigation and cleaning.

However, officials say the powdery substance was not found to be anything hazardous.

D.C. officials say a man, suspected to be Greene, sprinkled white powder on a bench, and was reported to authorities at around 10 a.m. at the Eastern Market station.

Officials say train service was suspended between Federal Center and Stadium-Armory, but it is now back up and running as normal.

No injuries were reported.
