Member of viral video cover band Walk Off the Earth Mike 'Beard Guy' Taylor has died

Mike "Beard Guy" Taylor, musician and member of pop band Walk Off the Earth has died.

The Canadian band shared the news on social media Sunday evening.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and band member, Mike 'Beard Guy' Taylor."

They said Taylor passed away in his sleep.

Walk Off the Earth says Taylor "had a love for life that was unmatched and a willingness to give that went beyond ordinary means."

"Our deepest sympathies are with his two children, whom he adored more than anything else in the world. We ask for privacy for his family in this trying time."

Walk Off the Earth has gained acclaim for their popular videos on Youtube, including covers of Gotye's "Somebody That I used to Know" and "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran. They've become known for playing unique instruments -- or even playing the same instrument together.

The band is due to begin a 2019 tour beginning on New Year's Eve in Niagara Falls.

There is no word on any concert date cancellations.
