Man sexually assaults sleeping woman in her Arlington home

Arlington County police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 25-year-old woman while she was sleeping in her Arlington home over the weekend.

The assault happened at around 5 a.m. Sunday morning in the 700 block of N. Edgewood Street. Police say a woman "awoke to an unknown male sexually assaulting her." After the attack, he fled the scene.

Police are looking for a man in a tan four-door sedan, who was last seen wearing a black hooded shell jacket with a hood.

The woman believes she first saw the suspect when she arrived home at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives from the Special Victim's Unit are actively investigating the incident.

"The fact that this is an unknown assailant is obviously very concerning to us and the community," said Ashley Savage, spokesperson for the Arlington County Police Department. "That's why we're putting our resources behind investigating this. We do want the public to know were fully investigating this. We have some investigative leads were working on. We attempted a K-9 track this evening that was negative and we've also canvassed the area."
