Man arrested, charged in murder of elderly man found shot in pickup truck in Clarke County: police

CLARKE COUNTY, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of an elderly man whose body was found in a pickup truck in Clarke County, Virginia over the weekend.

Officers say 50-year-old Dale Lee Wright, from West Virginia, was arrested and charged in the killing of 72-year-old Jeffrey B. Evans.

Authorities believe Wright and Evans met in a gravel lot on Castleman Road near the Shenandoah River at the Loudoun County line on Sunday morning around 11 a.m. for a business transaction. Police say the two were involved in a fight and say Wright shot Evans who was able to drive away from the lot before crashing his pickup near Castleman Road and Route 7.

Evans died at the scene. Witnesses told police they saw Wright running to Evans' pickup before fleeing the area.

The investigation is continuing at this time.
