LOCATED: Abducted 6-week-old Virginia girl found in Maryland; mother arrested

CHILLUM, Md. - A 6-week-old girl is safe after police in Virginia issued an Amber Alert for the baby and her mother Wednesday morning.

Fairfax County police said this started when they were contacted by Child Protective Services because there was a court order calling the baby's mother, Flora Khatun, an unfit parent.

They said she was actually at their offices for some time on Tuesday, but when they went to take custody of the infant, Liz Khatun, they could not find either of them.

A tip led investigators to an apartment along Dean Drive in Chillum, Maryland, and with the assistance of the FBI and Prince George's County police, the baby was found six hours after the Amber Alert was issued while her mother was arrested.

The baby was safe and unharmed and is back in protective custody in Fairfax County.

One neighbor told FOX 5 even though the mother's official address was listed in Falls Church, Virginia, he believes she had been renting a room in Prince George's County for the past few weeks.

A van sitting outside the apartment complex matched the description and license plates of the vehicle listed in the Amber Alert.

Flora Khatun was extradited back to Fairfax County where she is facing a parental abduction charge. The details of the court order have not been released, so it is unclear why she was declared an unfit mother. As far as criminal history, we found she had several traffic violations, and among them was for children in a vehicle not properly restrained.
