Ground turkey recalled after metal shavings found in package

The USDA announced Monday a massive recall of nearly 40,000 pounds of ground turkey after officials said metal shavings were found in one of the packages.

Prestage Foods, Inc. is recalling the ground turkey produced between Sept. 25 and 26. The St. Pauls, N.C. company said the recalled items bear establishment number "P-22000" inside the USDA mark of inspection and include the following brands:

The ground turkey was shipped to retail distribution centers in Alabama, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

The USDA said there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury from ingesting the meat, but consumers should not take a chance. The product should be thrown away or returned to the store where it was purchased.
