Frozen Reflecting Pool at National Mall attracts Washingtonians
WASHINGTON - As freezing temperatures swept through the District to kick off 2018, a photo captured Washingtonians taking the cold in stride as they walked across the Reflecting Pool at the National Mall.
Matt Dale captured the picture on New Year's Day as several people walked along the ice as the Lincoln Memorial towers in the background.
Historically cold temperatures greeted Washington D.C. as it rang in the new year and the chilly conditions continued into the week as a "bomb cyclone" topped off the winter weather on Thursday.
The storm moved into the District overnight as Washingtonians awoke to snow and ice covered roads throughout the region Thursday morning.
Maryland's Eastern Shore received the most snowfall as the powerful winter system moved along the East Coast creating blizzard-like conditions.
