Former Fairfax County sheriff's deputy charged with attacking inmate

FAIRFAX, Va. - A former Fairfax County deputy was charged on Thursday with assaulting an inmate back in December.

Police began investigating after they were contacted by the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney on Feb. 2 in the wake of a Sheriff's Office internal affairs investigation into an incident at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

They say 33-year-old Tenzin Kunkyab of Fairfax did not use a weapon during the alleged assault.

Kunkyab was released after being charged with simple assault.
