Fire crews are fighting a blaze burning near the east side of Yarnell that is called the Tenderfoot Fire.

The fire destroyed one structure and prompted deputies to conduct an evacuation of some 200-300 homes.

Several area fire departments, and the Bureau of Land Management are fighting the blaze which is estimated at 600 acres.

At least one large air tanker was spotted dropping fire retardant on the blaze.

ADOT crews have closed State Route 89 between mileposts 275 and 282 due to the fire. There is no ETA when the road will reopen.

Late Wednesday evening authorities say the 600-acre fire is under control, but is still burning.

Three-years-ago, a fire in the area claimed the lives of 19 firefighters who belonged to the Granite Mountain Hot Shots.

Any evacuees who need to shelter their animals can bring them to 840 Rodeo Drive in Prescott or Yavapai College.
