Fire rescue officials in Miami Dade have made a happy surprise in a grim setting -- puppies.

Officials were alerted Thursday to a faint sound coming from under a large cement box used to store coffins. Miami Dade Fire Rescue Crews removed a few of the cement slabs, digging dirt around the cement boxes until they found a puppy's face. They tried using tools to free the pup but mostly used their bare hands. When they finally freed the puppy, they noticed two siblings.

Officials said all three puppies are scared but in good health. The puppies were turned over to the Redland Rockpit Abandoned Dogs Project. The puppies appear to have been taken care of by their mother. The rescue group is searching for her.
