ALEXANDRIA, Va. - It’s the first day of school for Fairfax County Public Schools, and leaders are rolling out several changes as students return to class.
As part of the school system’s ongoing effort to strengthen layered safety and security measures, the division is implementing a new student ID system for students who ride school buses. The district is also enforcing its expanded cellphone policy, requiring cellphones, accessories and all smart devices, including smart glasses, earbuds, headsets and dual‑purpose watches, to be turned off and stored from bell to bell.

FCPS is adding security screenings for all spectators at varsity football games this year, a step officials say will help ensure athletic events remain safe for students, families, staff and community members.
The district is also promoting its updated school meals platform, which allows families to view daily menus, check nutritional information and identify allergens.
