DC apartment fire sends 2 to hospital, injures firefighter

Two people were taken to the hospital after a fire ripped through an apartment building in the District overnight.

DC firefighters responded to the blaze at the three-story apartment building in the 1300 block of Alabama Avenue, SE at about midnight.

Firefighters rushed with ladders to rescue several people as the two-alarm fire raged.

Officials said two people were taken to the hospital in stable condition and a firefighter suffered a minor injury while responding to the blaze.

Alabama Avenue, SE from Congress Street, SE to 12th Street, SE was closed in both directions as firefighters battled the flames.

About 13 people have been displaced due to the fire.

Firefighters reported the fire had been knocked down and the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
