Bear hides out in storm drain

State wildlife officials in Colorado Springs evicted a bear from his dangerous new residence, a storm drain on a suburban street, this week.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Southeast Region shared the video showing the bear being eased out of a manhole before being shot with a non-lethal rubber slug to deter him from venturing near homes again.

The bear was seen peering out of the storm drain as rain began to fall and wildlife officers tried to decide how to free it.

Residents of a nearby senior community stayed locked in their houses while waiting for word from wildlife officers that it was safe to come out.

Wildlife officers believe the bear may have found the open garbage receptacle nearby filled with garbage and branches from a tree filled with berries.
