Accused Va. rapist allegedly sent video of attack to victim
HAYMARKET, Va. - Prince William County police have confirmed alarming new details about a reported gang rape in Haymarket.
A woman emailed FOX 5 and says she is the 39-year-old victim in the October 23 incident. The five defendants, ages 17 to 24, are charged with rape. A mugshot of the youngest defendant has not been released because he is a minor.
In her email, the woman says the youngest defendant recorded the horrific attack and sent it to her the next day. The reported victim wrote about the brutality of the crime, adding that the video forced her to relive the attack all over again. The alleged victim also says in the email that the defendants cut her engagement ring off her finger and intended to sell it.
FOX 5 asked Prince William County police about those two assertions mentioned in the email, and they said they are aware and it is part of the investigation.
Police say the victim was initially at the house with the defendants voluntarily, but she somehow became incapacitated. When she woke up, she sensed that something was wrong, went to the hospital and called police.
In the email to FOX 5, the woman says she believes there are other victims. In response, police say this is an ongoing investigation, and there are no additional charges at this time.
