52-year-old Loudoun County woman struck, killed by falling tree branch

A 52-year-old woman was killed by a falling tree branch in Loudoun County Tuesday, police say.

Just after 9 p.m. in the 41600 block of Stumptown Road in Leesburg, police say Melanie Brose, from Leesburg was clearing fallen branches when a large branch fell and struck her.

Brose was taken to a nearby hospital and died from her injuries Wednesday morning, officials say.

This comes after rain, snow, and ice came through the area, causing hundreds of downed trees and thousands of power outages.
