2-alarm fire rips through SE DC apartment building

Dozens of firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire in Southeast D.C. on Monday.

Dozens of firefighters responded to a fire in Southeast D.C. on Monday.

Officials say a second alarm was requested for the fire at a two-story apartment building in the 4900 block of A Street, SE. They say 20 units and 80 firefighters responded to the fire.

Sources tell FOX 5 officials are looking into reports that someone was grilling near the roof of the building at around 3:30 p.m. 

Twelve families have been displaced and 14 units have fire or water damage. 

The Red Cross and Mayor Muriel Bowser's office is assisting with temporary housing at this time.
