Terrell PD investigate sex assault report involving middle schoolers

Terrell police are investigating a report that a child was sexually assaulted and video of the incident was spread among middle school students.

Terrell police were told last Monday by school officials a student was sexually assaulted by other students off campus. Police have obtained the video sent to other students and are interviewing suspects.

The alleged victim and the juvenile suspects attend Herman Furlough Junior Middle School.

Terrell ISD released a statement Monday saying the principal met with the students last week to discuss the legal implications of sending and receiving inappropriate material.

Parents at the school on Monday said the district should have made them aware of what they were talking to the students about.

"Parents should always be informed of anything that happens at school or off campus involving the kids. That way parents can do their job. It's not up to school to sit and talk to your children about these kinds of things," said Dianne Glover, a grandmother of a student at the school.

If investigators determine the sex was consensual, then the incident would not be a crime. But video of juveniles having sex would be another issue that would have to be considered by authorities.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
