Suspect arrested near Capitol for claiming to have Molotov cocktail and knife

Police stopped a person claiming to have a Molotov cocktail and a knife near the East Plaza of the Capitol Building on Monday afternoon.

A U.S. Capitol Police spokesperson said the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m., near the ramp leading to the Capitol’s south door. 

Officers apprehended the individual, who is now in custody, and investigators are pursuing charges of unlawful activities.

Details about the suspect or the potential threat have not been released. The U.S. Capitol Police Public Information Office stated that the investigation is ongoing.

The incident marks the latest in a series of security concerns at the Capitol, underscoring heightened vigilance in the area. Officials have yet to clarify whether the alleged Molotov cocktail was a functional device.
