Police seek to ID man they say attacked, robbed transgender woman in Northwest DC
WASHINGTON - Authorities are searching for a man they say is suspected of attacking and robbing a transgender woman earlier this month in Northwest D.C.
Police say the alleged attack happened around 9:20 p.m. on September 17 in the 7700 block of Eastern Avenue. A police report says the man punched and kicked the woman and took $40 and a cell phone from a backpack belonging to her. The report says the man tried to steal a purse from a second woman who was with the victim but was unable to.
According to the police report, the victim of the attack refused medical attention. She told investigators that she believed the attack was a hate crime because the man yelled an expletive at her and made a cutting motion across his neck while saying, "I am going to kill you, I hate transgender female."
