New S'mores cookies coming soon to a Girl Scout Troop near you
Happy National S'mores Day! To celebrate, the Girls Scouts have announced new S'mores cookies that will be added to the 2017 cookie lineup with classic favorites like Thin Mints and Samoas.
One of the Girl Scouts' S'mores cookies is a crunchy graham sandwich cookie with creamy chocolate and marshmallowy filling, the Girl Scouts said. The other is covered with chocolate.
The Girl Scouts have two different bakers of the s'mores cookies, which is why there are two very different variations, so the cookie that is offered for purchase will depend on where you live.
"S'mores has deep roots in Girl Scouts' history, and Girl Scouts have been enjoying S'mores around campfires for generations. This new cookie is a delicious way for our customers to support girls in developing outdoor and leadership skills throughout the year in Girl Scouts," said Darlene Harris, Girl Scouts of West Central Florida Director of Product Sales.
Fun facts:
The tradition of making s'mores was made popular by the Girl Scouts in the 1920s. Originally, the recipe was called "Some More," in a 1925 issue of "Girl Scout Leader" magazine. The name transitioned to "somemores," and then finally, s'mores.
The cookies can be ordered starting Jan. 6, 2017 and you'll see cookie booths open from Feb. 17-March 12.
