'My dad shot my Pop Pop': Toddler witnesses father kill grandfather in DC

A D.C. man is in jail after police say he shot and killed his father inside a Navy Yard apartment.

Darryl Smith, 61, was found dead Tuesday evening inside The Parc Apartments on First Street Southeast.

His sister, Sharon Smith, told FOX 5 she was in disbelief that her nephew, 37-year-old De-Angelo Goldston, was the one who pulled the trigger.

"I'm upset because he loved his son," she said. "He loved all of his kids dearly. He would always say, ‘I’d die for my kids,’ but I never thought he would die by the hands of his kid."

FOX 5 was at the scene Tuesday when Sharon Smith arrived and knocked on the door, calling out to her brother. She said Goldston answered and stepped back, revealing her brother lying in a pool of blood.

Smith, who used a wheelchair, had a passion for music and loved rapping. His family shared a video of him performing at his mother’s funeral.

"If he was standing here right now, he’d say, ‘Let me ask you something, you like rap?’ and he would just start spitting," Sharon Smith said. "He wanted to be a rapper. He was a really good person. I’m going to miss him. A heart of gold."
